Welcome
The Bernoulli Center of the EPFL is hosting a six-month research program entitled
"Limits of graphs in group
theory and computer science".
The main themes of the program are
- Group and graphs embeddings into Hilbert and Banach spaces
- Explicit construction of "exceptional" graphs and groups
- Random groups
- Self-similar groups
- Applications (construction of expanders, related
combinatorial objects and randomness, coding theory, non-regular
expanders, generalization of expanders for graph based codes)
The program consists of a series of mini-courses and research seminars
during the
semester, starting with a major international event Geometric
linearization of graphs and groups, January 22-26, 2007.
Semester talks
During the semester January - June 2007, mini-courses and
research seminars are
organized at EPFL. The program can be consulted here.
We are planning to edit a book covering the subject of the semester (including geometric group theory and related topics). You are welcome to submit a contribution with research/survey/lecture notes material (which will be seriously refereed).
The book will be published by the EPFL Press, the English language imprint of the Presses Polytechniques, based here at the EPFL (duly reviewed by Mathscinet, etc.)
Deadline for submission of contributions: October 31, 2007.
Please send your files, in pdf format, to BOTH of us:

Geometric linearization of
graphs and
groups
The semester's key event will take place from January 22-26, 2007 at the EPFL. Leading scientists have already accepted the invitation to
give a plenary talk during this international event.
Call for Abstracts
Session talks of 20-min. will be organized during the event. Therefore,
one-page
abstract submissions are welcome. Additionally, a fellowship travel
grant program is available to allow young researchers to attend the
meeting. Please notice the early deadline for those wishing to apply
for travel grants.
Important dates
- Deadline for abstracts with application for fellowship
travel grants: December 25, 2006
- Deadline for regular abstracts: January 5, 2007
- Notification of acceptance: January 15, 2007
- Registration deadline: January 10, 2007
